EXE Error
What is an EXE Error?
When talking about an .exe application file, what you are referring to is an executable application, which is a file that you have to activate in order for it to do the job for which it was designed.
Thus it is that the majority of software programs that you will download from the internet will come in the form of .exe application files. The same would also be true of many programs that you access from CDs and floppy disks as well.
In any of these situations, all you effectively need to do in order to activate or execute the application is double-click and then follow the on-screen instructions.
This, of course, assumes that everything works the way that it should do.
Unfortunately, this is not always going to be the case, as .exe application files can sometimes malfunction for many different reasons.
For example, such problems could mean that the program you are trying to activate has not necessarily downloaded properly onto your machine if it is a file that you have accessed online.
Perhaps even worse, the program might only partially load or do so in a defective manner so that it is unusable and also affects other programs on your computer adversely.
In this latter scenario, it may well be that the program you are trying to load is not necessarily something that is particularly important to you, but the error that has occurred may damage other programs that are far more critical.
It is therefore important that you understand a little more about EXE errors and how to deal with them.

How to recognize EXE Errors.
The first and easiest way of recognizing an .exe error is a program that will not install correctly on your machine. Whilst this could potentially be an indication that there is an error in another sector of your operating system registry, nevertheless, if you cannot install a program correctly, your first suspicion should be that the underlying .exe file is damaged.
If this is a program that you have downloaded from the net, then the first thing you should try to do it is remove the .exe file from your computer and download it once again.
If this second download is still ineffective, then I would strongly suspect that the file itself is damaged and unusable and would therefore abandon the idea of downloading it.Similarly, the same would apply if you are trying to install program from a CD or floppy disk.If the installation has not happened correctly the first time, try again.
In both these scenarios, it will also be a wise move to close any other programs that are already running on your PC, as these may be coming into conflict with the .exe application file that is trying to install program.
It could be that the .exe file needs additional processing capacity or memory in order to complete the program installation correctly, and other programs that are already running could be hogging the CPU and memory.
The bottom line is that if you are trying to install a program from an .exe application file and the installation is not successful, then you should suspect that the .exe application is damaged.

What to do about EXE Errors
As suggested above, the first thing that you should do if you suspect that a damaged .exe file is preventing you from installing a program is to try reinstalling the program once again.
Before doing so, however, you may want to reboot your PC in order to make sure that your machine does not ‘remember’ the defective installation as this may cause further problems.
The next thing to consider is your antivirus software, and any firewall application that you have installed on your machine.
Unfortunately, most virus programs and spyware applications are sent to your PC as .exe files, and your virus and spyware fighting software is generally incapable of recognizing the difference between a good and bad .exe application files. The software may therefore be preventing the .exe file loading onto your computer completely.
So, you should try temporarily disabling the software to see whether that allows the .exe file to run correctly.
If none of these solutions is effective, then it may be that the .exe file is in conflict with other EXE files or programs on your machine.
Unfortunately, this is the case, then it is probably going to be extremely difficult to trace the source of your problem without the appropriate detection software to assist you.
It may be that the .exe file is in conflict with is spyware or other malware that has somehow found its way onto your computer. Run a spyware check and remove any malicious programs you find and then try using the .exe application once again.
The final step is to scan the registry of your machine, as this is probably going to highlight the root cause of your problems. If you already have software to undertake this task, then you should use it to clean up your registry immediately.
If, however, you do not have the necessary software, then you can run a free scan at SpeedyPC.
Cleaning up your operating system registry is always a sensible decision, as it will inevitably help to keep your machine running far more smoothly.
In a situation where you have an .exe error that you cannot trace the cause of, it may be your only answer.
