Microsoft Word Error
What Is A Microsoft Word Error?
For the vast majority of people who use a computer, whether it be a Windows powered PC or an Apple Mac, the first program that they ever use is the word processor because they need to create documents either for work purposes or at home.
For most of these folks, they will therefore almost certainly have had some experience of using Microsoft Word, as it is the almost universal de facto standard word processing software in use today.
Possibly the single most significant reason behind its apparent total domination of the word processing business is its simplicity of use.
Perhaps most uninformed computer users would therefore be quite surprised to discover that Word is a very ‘heavy’ program indeed. In fact, whenever it is running, it ties up a great chunk of your PC’s processing abilities and can be a very significant factor in making your machine run slowly in anything less than ideal or perfect conditions.
If, for example, you are running other programs that are also heavy memory and processing power users at the same time, then you can almost guarantee that your machine will run slowly.
Here are some of the most common errors that you are likely to encounter when using Microsoft Word on a Windows driven PC.

Common Microsoft Word Errors
The first problem that you may encounter is that Word will not open at all, hanging as you attempt to initially start the program. Most commonly this will be a result of a font error, especially is you have loaded non-standard font types.
For example, it is becoming increasingly common for website designers to include non-standard fonts in the web site templates that they produce and these are fairly notorious for causing Word errors to be indicated.
In general, Word does not like them one little bit!
Other common Error messages that you will often times see are:
- Unable to read files
- This file is not in a recognizable format
- Word failed reading from this file (). Please restore the network connection or replace the floppy disk and retry.
- There isn’t enough memory or disk space to open word
- There is insufficient memory. Save the document now. (*.doc)
- Word experienced an error trying to open the file.

Dealing With Microsoft Word Errors
The first thing to say is that the vast majority of apparent Word errors are nothing of the sort - they are more often than not ‘false positives’, readings indicating the presence of errors that do not, in fact, exist.
If therefore you see any of the messages shown above, you should initially check the current CPU usage levels from the ‘Windows Task Manager’ panel (Ctrl + Alt + Del). This will very quickly indicate what percentage of capacity your CPU is currently running at.
If it is high, check the ‘Processes’ window to see what programs are currently eating up your capacity, and, if you can, close them down.
That may very well be all that you need to do to ‘fix’ the problem.
If that does not work try closing Word down without addressing the ‘error’ at all, and then reopening it. This is effective in a surprisingly high percentage of situations where your computer is getting a ‘false positive’ signal that produces a Word error prompt.
If neither of these simple steps is effective, then you probably need to scan the registry that underlies the operating system of your PC.
This is the most effective way of detecting and repairing a host of relatively minor registry defects, the cumulative effect of which will ultimately be to slow down your PC.
If you already have and use registry repair software, then now is an excellent time to use it to scan your system. If there are any significant Microsoft Word errors to be found, this is the easiest way to do the job.
If, however, you do not already have suitable software installed on your machine, you can still avail yourself of a free scan using proprietary software like SpeedyPC.
This will indicate whatever problems you have and can also pretty obviously be used to fix them as well!
